Love Is Blindness (orig by U2) by Jack White

This is a sick take on this song. Jack is badass.

Straight As An Arrow by Club 8

I need a reblog Luke button.

Bonus points for the Joan Jett “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” drumbeat (which is still such a sick song).

Wilco - I am trying to break your heart

At some point overnight I and a few others got an email from James, asking what our selections for a 13 song Wilco playlist would be.

It’s a surprisingly difficult question: I don’t even really think of myself as “a Wilco fan” and I still had something like twenty possibilities pop into my head. Plus I’m half inclined to just put on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in its entirety, because it’s hard to come up with a better collection of songs than this one.

Seems that I’ll be listening to a bunch of Wilco today. Feel free to join me.

To me Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is the only ever “perfect” album. No other album, ever, is perfect like it is. Not Sgt. Peppers, not Nevermind, not Dark Side of the Moon, not Led Zeppelin IV, not Pet Sounds, not Highway 61 Revisited… you get my point.

Mind you I’m not saying Yankee is the BEST album of all-time, that’s a matter of preference. I’d even argue with myself it’s not the best Wilco album (for me it’s Sky Blue Sky - jesus that album is underrated), but I am saying Yankee is the only album that is “perfect”. Truly a 10. There isn’t a note you can change, a lyric you can rewrite, an order you could rearrange to improve on it. And you couldn’t have released it at a better time. It is what it is - perfection.

And, taking this one step further, if James asked me (he didn’t and I’m not hurt at all James, ha)… as perfect as Yankee is, I’d still pick One Wing off Wilco (the album). That’s just my Wilco jam for many reasons.

Anyways…excellent pick Whit and I look forward to seeing the entire 13 song playlist. Also, sorry for the long Wilco diatribe, I just get pretty passionate about them and some day hope to have Jeff Tweedy’s baby.

Golden Girls by Devendra Banhart

This song gets me every single time it comes on in my Rdio Loved Tracks Mix. I stop whatever I’m doing and just listen. It’s only 1:35 seconds long, but packed with smooth.

On The Road by Houndmouth

Another great find by Luke.

Confidence by The Dodos

It’s impossible for me to keep up with Whit’s (and Andy’s for that matter) vast musical knowledge. I just hold on for dear life and listen and thank them for educating me. This one hit me hard.

Won’t Be Long by The Features

Really digging this album a lot. This cut sounds like Led Zeppelin to me – a good cruising, top down on the Jeep, at the Jersey shore “100.7 WZXL Classic Rock”, summer song.

Check out the full album here on Bandcamp.

The Features are My Artist of the Weekend

Rotten by The Features

The opening track off the new Features album is my fav. It’s like a Blur song in the verses and an old Genesis song with Peter Gabriel in the chorus.

Somewhere (orig West Side Story) by Vic Chesnutt & Liz Durrett

What a hauntingly beautiful version of an already beautifully tragic song. I love how their vocals don’t quite sync up. Makes the song.

PS: I don’t go for musicals (odd for me since I love music) but I do go for West Side Story big time. We only had a handful of albums in the house growing up and the soundtrack to West Side Story was one of them.

PSS: Even though I’m white I totally wanted to be a Shark growing up. F’ the Jets.
